 Cedar Shake Preservation Products 

We use only Complete Cedar Shield™ for preserving our customers roofs. We have tried all of the other products available in Chicago and have found it to be the very best. Complete Cedar Shield is the only product that address' all of the issues a cedar shake roof is exposed to.  Every wood roof has some amount of mold, algae or moss. Some times algae only shows itself when the roof is wet.  Complete Cedar Shield is the only product that contains a known mildewcide. It also contains an acrylic component that gives the fragile surface wood strength.  The acrylic helps stop the errosion that makes shakes thinner and can expose the tar paper if too much wear occurs. This combined with a special longer lasting wax gives superior water repelling characteristics. It contains Zinc-Borate, which gives excellent UV-A/UV-B protection. The Zinc-Borate acts as an antimicrobial, which keeps the mold, algae and moss from coming back. Complete Cedar Shield comes in three beautiful colors. Timberland Brown is a deep chestnut brown color, which provides a great contrast to accentuate rooflines and architectural features.  Weathering Grey is a light gray that will brighten the roof, but is a true grey not the white color you may have seen. Slate Grey is designed to make the most natural appearance, one that keeps the color closest to what an untreated roof looks like. Pigment can also be added if a darker shade is desired.

Moss and Algae Removal

• When moss and algae are extremely intense we have an exclusive product called Viking Bio-Wash™. This is only available through Viking roof preservation. Viking Bio-Wash is the ONLY product that kills moss and algae and does not damage the integrity of the roof. (Other companies use bleach, which is excellent at killing the growth, but also excellent at damaging the fragile surface wood.) 

• After treatment all the moss and algae are no longer deteriorating the cedar shake. We remove all the dead debris, and the roof is ready to treat.
   

Cedar Shake Repair and Replacement

• Viking uses only the very best materials available. We purchase cedar and roofing products exclusivly from Mid-West Supply. We feel this gives us a distinct advantage. Cedar shake can be purchased in varying levels of quality. Using inferior quality shake can allow you to offer cheaper prices, but the results show in the finished product. 

Viking will repair the damaged shakes

• We take careful consideration when it comes to your roof. We look at the problems your roof is facing and develop a plan to address and correct them. We look for burn throughs, missing shake, rotten shake, seam on seam, ridge cap condition, and most importantly Leaks. After our services we leave your roof in the best condition possible, able to weather storms and all the natural conditions a cedar roof is exposed to.

• Pictured above, is a roof that was treated by a competitor. During our inspections, we often find several shakes that obviously should have been replaced. 

Insufficient repair can result in BIG problems

• This is a picture of a leak. This is the direct result of neglect. The shake above was nailed down and there is a burn through directly to the right of the leak. Take careful consideration when selecting a roofing company. Cost should not be your major determining factor. Look to see how much repair the company is willing to do.
